John Laurence received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from New York University Tandon School of Engineering and his J.D. from New York Law School. John received his LLM in Intellectual Property and Technology Law from Fordham University Law School. He is a member of the New York State Bar, the U.S. Patent And Trademark Office (Patent Bar), and the District Court of the Southern District of New York.
Experience
John focuses his practice on intellectual property law, including trademark, patent, and copyright law. John regularly helps individuals and businesses develop, secure, and enforce their intellectual property rights.

John has helped develop and manage patent portfolios across various technologies. John has drafted and prosecuted patent applications involving communication systems, transmission protocols, machine learning, artificial intelligence, software, multimedia systems, internet-based technologies, semiconductors, payment systems, blockchains, mechanical devices, electrical devices, and medical devices. John's patent filings have included national applications in the U.S. and foreign territories, national phase filings based on Patent Cooperation Treaty applications, and industrial design applications under the Hague System. John also has practice experience with appeals and inter partes review proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
John has filed, prosecuted, and enforced trademarks for various brands involving various goods and services. John has filed U.S. trademark applications and international registrations under the Madrid System. John also has practice experience with oppositions and cancellation proceedings before Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.

John's transaction practice experience has helped clients monetize their intellectual property rights worldwide. John's experience performing patentability and trademark searches has helped his clients develop their intellectual property rights effectively.

Prior to becoming an attorney, John worked as an engineer for manufacturers and networks within the broadcast and post-production industries. As an engineer, John gained extensive experience designing, installing, and maintaining video production and distribution systems, control and routing systems, video and audio post-production facilities, storage systems, database configurations, and special effects systems.
